Artist's Comments

Grizabella's poem was not included when Eliot published Practical Cats because "he thought her story too sad for children," and the poem was never finished. However, when Andrew Lloyd Weber began to adapt Practical Cats into the musical, Valerie Eliot, TSE's widow, gave him some unfinished Cat poetry, including Grizabella who became the star character of the musical CATS.

Grizabella: the Glamour Cat
T.S. Eliot
She haunted many a low resort
Near the grimy road of Tottenham Court
She flitted about the No Man's Land
From "The Rising Sun" to "The Friend at Hand"

And the postman sighed as he scratched his head
"You'd really had thought she ought to be dead"

And who would ever suppose that
That was Grizabella, the glamour cat

Beautiful! I love her dress! =)

o_o I've read that somewhere, but not from Eliot. HUH now I wonder where I got it from......

It is a tad depressing, but all of Cats wasn't all peachy, I don't see it as TOO DARK for kids. :/ Not by today's standards anyway.

If I get a cat I'm naming it Grizabella or Grimbleshanks (something from Will & Grace).
Actually, Graham and I are gonna get a sphynx (ignore spelling) and name it Arthas. X D

I love dresses.

You probably heard it from the musical CATS. TSE wrote it, but never had it published. When Webber wrote CATS he got some unfinished Jellicle poetry from TSE's widow. Grizabella was part of that.

Grimbleshanks--That's close to Skimbleshanks another TSE Jellicle. :D

Some people say cats are sneaky, evil and cruel. True, and they have many other fine qualities as well. ~ Missy Dizick

Skimbleshanks is the actual one Will wanted, but I like Grimble better. XD

This makes me want to sing the song "Memory."
:iconyuoofox:
By the way, do you know what the Heavyside Lair is?
:icongen-kavik:
The Heavyside Layer is the jellicle's version of Heaven. like the Everlasting Cat is their God as near as i can figure.

I am not doing this just to spite him. I have other reasons, too.

Every cloud has a silver lining. Unless it's a storm cloud. Then it's all black. And you should get in doors. And away from metal objects.

I was also surprised when I found out that not all the lyrics in the musical come from this volume, especially the theme song "Memory" because I was so sure it had been written by Eliot (his imagery, his metaphores). All in all it turned out the lyrics were written for the musical but inspired by Eliot's non-cat poem "Rhapsody on the Windy Night" [link]

I really like the way you produced Grizabella's face and body with just a few lines.
